Simple ways to improve WiFi connectivity in serviced accommodation

There are many affordable and easy ways to improve the WiFi connectivity in your serviced apartment. Check our out top tips below for some of the most simple practices.

Optimal router placement

One of the easiest ways to improve a WiFi connection is by moving the router. Having the router near walls can cause interference and stop the signal from reaching devices that are far away. The best position for a WiFi router is being placed above furniture, in an open space. This will allow the WiFi signals to pass through the rooms easily, as large bulky items of furniture won’t be in the way. If your access point is in a hall way, try placing the router on a shelf.

Reduce frequency interference

You can try to reduce wireless interference that can be caused by items like microwaves. Microwaves and other wireless devices operate at a frequency of 2.4 gigahertz (GHz). This is a very common frequency and may be the cause of the poor WiFi connectivity. Try replacing these items with devices that use a 5.8 GHz or 900 megahertz (MHz) frequency.

Updating firmware

Another simple way to fix the WiFi connection in your serviced accommodation, is by updating the firmware. Manufactures are always improving software however you might not always get notified about these updates. Most routers have the update process built into the admin interface, so you can just hit the upgrade button. However, some old router modems require you to visit the manufacture’s website, download the firmware file and upload it to the admin interface. Still an easy process, just slightly longer.

Replacing the antenna

If the router uses an internal antenna, adding an external one would be a good idea. An external antenna tends to send a stronger signal, and with many guests staying at the same time, this could be helpful. You can choose between omnidirectional antennas (ones that send signals to all directions), or directional antennas, (which only send signals in the direction that they are pointing in). Most built-in antennas are omnidirectional, so if you plan on installing an external one, it should be marked as “high-gain” to really make a difference.

How Resooma can improve the WiFi connectivity in serviced accommodation

Resooma can help improve the WiFi connectivity in your serviced accommodation in many ways. Once you’ve joined our utility bill management service, which consolidates all of your portfolios utility bills into one single, digital monthly payment, you’ll also be entitled to our amazing WiFi upgrades! These include WiFi mesh, dongles and an engineer, which will result in better WiFi coverage and reduce guest refund requests.

WiFi dongles

Resooma will send out free WiFi dongles as soon as guests inform you of a WiFi issue. WiFi dongles will help keep your guests connected to the internet even if the router isn’t working. This will keep your guests happy, and result in less complaints.

WiFi mesh

Resooma can install WiFi mesh into your serviced accommodation building. WiFi mesh helps to extend the signals all over the building, unlike a router that may not stretch as far as your guests need it to. We will place WiFi mesh in specific areas to help generate the strongest WiFi signal possible, resulting in happier guests, positive reviews, and less refund requests.

Sending out a WiFi engineer

When you pinpoint your next potential serviced apartment investment, Resooma will send out a qualified WiFi engineer who can inspect the building and notify you of any potential WiFi issues. This will help identify if the building will be a good investment from a WiFi perspective. As mentioned above, we can install WiFi mesh into any building, however being informed of potential WiFi issues before adding to your portfolio, may help you to save a bit of money too.

We hope you found all of these WiFi connectivity tips helpful. If you want to learn more about what Resooma can offer your business, check out our website here.
