Things to do 1 – 2 months before you move out 📦

First and foremost, it’s essential to plan ahead! Start preparing for your move as early as possible to avoid last-minute stress.

Before you start packing, take the time to declutter your belongings. Decide what items you want to keep, donate, or discard. This will not only reduce the amount of stuff you need to move but also make unpacking in your new home much easier. Start collecting boxes. You can buy some online or pop to your nearest IKEA, but make sure you have enough. Having too many boxes is better than not enough.

If you live in a rented home, you should notify your landlord that you will be moving and not extending your tenancy. This will give them time to make the arrangements for a new tenant. Speaking of notifying people of your move, tell your broadband provider! WIFI is usually the last thing to be installed when moving into a new property, as sometimes it can take weeks for an engineer to be available in your area, so the sooner you notify the company, the better!

Tips for moving out 🏡

Here are some tips for moving out which you should start to think about roughly 1 – 2 weeks before your moving out date.

Pack room by room, labelling boxes with their contents and destination rooms for easy unpacking. Place heavier items at the bottom of boxes and use smaller boxes for dense items to prevent overloading. Wrap fragile items in newspaper or bubble wrap, and fill any gaps with soft materials to prevent shifting. Pack essentials separately for easy access upon arrival. Utilise clothing as padding for fragile items to save space and protect belongings. Finally, fill boxes to the top to prevent collapsing when stacked

On moving out day, be prepared with snacks, water, and any necessary tools. Keep important documents, valuables, and medications with you rather than packed away. Before you leave your old home, take the time to clean it thoroughly. This will help ensure you get your security deposit back if you’re renting. Moving can be exciting but it can also be physically and emotionally exhausting, so be sure to take breaks, stay hydrated, and get enough rest throughout the process.
