Deadlines are looming and exams are just around the corner, meaning it’s getting to that time of year again where you will be spending so much time in the library, you should probably start paying rent. We’ve put together our best do’s and don’ts for you to follow in order to ensure that your library etiquette is up to speed!

The Do’s

Wrap up warm!

The library can get chilly so make sure you layer up your clothes if you are planning to be there for a long stint. Though try not to wear your comfiest jumper or you are highly likely to take a nap at your desk. No one wants a rude awakening from an angry librarian!

Cable up!

You’ll need your laptop for a productive library session so make sure you go in fully charged, and bring your charger with you to save the hassle of needing to run home from the library before you lose all of your hard work. Taking an extension lead is another great idea as you can always ask your library boyfriend if he minds sharing with you…any excuse.

Bring your revision stash!

Bringing post-it notes, coloured pens and paper are a great way to mix up your revision and help keep yourself focussed and motivated to do your work. Try making visually stimulating revision mediums such as mind maps to keep yourself engaged!

Snacks galore!

Bringing healthy snacks to the library is a good way to stay fuelled up whilst you are in the library. Try bringing nutritious treats such as fruit or crudités to keep you going without feeling sluggish.

Energy time!

As long as it is in moderation, having a caffeine break while you are in the library is a good way to perk yourself up and get your focus back on track. Popping into a coffee shop with a friend is a good way to utilise a revision break without getting too far off track, but also taking yourself far enough away from your work for it to feel like real break.

The Don’ts

Considerate snacking!

There are a lot of don’ts when it comes to bringing food to the library with you – with the two main culprits being anything overly crunchy or odorous! If you want to bring crisps with you pop them in a Tupperware before you set up camp in the library, and don’t even think about prepping tuna/egg sandwiches if you don’t want to offend your neighbour!

Abort mission highlighters!

Contrary to popular belief, using highlighters can actually be regressive to your revision progress. Check out our scientifically proven revision techniques for more top tricks.

That distracting friend!

Bringing a study buddy to the library can be a great way to do some group work, but try not to invite your distracting friends with you or you’ll end up getting no work down, or worse down the pub instead!

Put your mobile away!

Let’s be honest, our phones can be a huge distraction at the best of times, and even more so when you are trying to stay focused. Leave your mobile at home if you know you will keep reaching for it, or take it and put it on aeroplane mode to make sure you stay in the zone.
